inspiration

now that all the fall collections have been shown-- i have been looking for some inspiration to put it all together.  no matter how fresh or inventive fashion can be, it always goes back to the classics.  here are some of my style icons that have been helping me pull it together:

flat

flats are the preferred shoe choice for tall girls like myself.  i am glad to see them make their way back into high fashion.  here are some of my favorite picks:

dear creatures

this is a line that i am after.  aside from their marketing campaign of sweet-faced 60's'ish sirens parading around native american hut's and dreamy fields of tall grass, their clothes are the perfect mix of vintage and modern.  here are some of my favorite pics torn from their autumn 2009 look-book:

stripes!

i am not much of a print girl.  i never got into polka dots, geometrical shaping or animal prints.  stripes, on the other hand, is my print weakness.  i think a good striped blouse or knit top is all you need to pull an outfit from bland to chic.  and stripes are equally owned by multiple fashion classes: sailor prep, punk rock, indie kids.  fashion snobs and chic geeks alike.  if it starts to feel too summery and nautical, transition stripes into your wardrobe for fall by deepening your color choice-- black and white versus navy, maroon and brown over red, etc.

ashley

good job, ashley.  this outfit has all of the quintessential fall elements: leather jacket, camel colored sweater of some sort, leggings and hunters.

curly hair

slowly this is what i'm trying to create with my fall look.  i have the glasses [check] leather jacket [check, check] but that cursed curly hair still evades me.  oh well... a girl can dream....

all that glitters is gold

if there is one trend i can get behind this fall-- it is shiny, shimmery sequins.  maybe it was all those years in dance-- tapping away in a sequins unitard.  at any rate-- i'm into it.  to play this look more fashion and less costume-- try pairing one sequin-coated piece with a solid partner.  a sequins blazer with black tank and black skinnies.  or try a sequin bra under a gray tee, like our lovely example below:

here are some other glittery options to get you started:
